Farm Market Report for July 26, 2016 Keith Helmuth
Between Canada Day and New Brunswick Day the season for farm and garden produce takes a big leap and the results are now showing up at the Woodstock Farm and Craft Market.
Friday is the day when the biggest supplies of fresh vegetables come rolling in. The Market opens at 8 AM on Friday. For the best selection it’s good to get to Market early. New crop vegetables usually start with small quantities until the larger amounts come in. Although the Market is open until 4 PM, the bulk of fresh produce sales wind up by around 2 PM. The Market hours Monday to Thursday are 10 to 4 and the same on Saturday.
Saturday, July 30th will see the third special Summer Saturday Market. Many vendors who do not have a regular stall space in the Market will set up in the parking lot in front of the building. This expansion brings in more local products and helps make downtown Woodstock a more lively place on Saturday. The Summer Saturday Markets are held the last week of each month right into the fall.
Three years ago the Woodstock Farm and Craft Market helped initiate the first Children’s Performance Stage for the Dooryard Arts Festival. It started with a small group of children and parents eager to have the chance to perform the music they were learning.
This year the Children’s Performance started at 12-noon in the big tent on the main performance stage and went on for an hour and half. Most the chairs were filled with enthusiastic families and friends as the performers did their best. Three cheers for the Dooryard Arts Festival and what being part of this Woodstock summer event will continue to mean for young musicians
